Ok, de retour avec le reste des vacances, sous forme de liste (parce j’ai trop de terrain à couvrir) :
- Lundi 3 août : Visite au Moulin Seigneurial en avant-midi et dîner de la boulangerie. Fin d’après-midi et soirée chez les parents de François, où on teste leur nouveau spa! Souper BBQ, yum.
- Mardi et mercredi : deux journées tranquilles. Un peu de magasinage et de préparatifs pour WorldCon. Premier cours de baladi en soirée!
- Jeudi : X et O retrouvent leurs amis de la garderie, et François et moi nous allons voir l’exposition Léonardo da Vinci à Montréal. Ensuite, nous dînons sur place, et François vient me déposer chez Karine, où j’habiterai durant les prochains jours. Il retourne ensuite à Trois-Rivières pour s’occuper de la maisonnée. Quant à moi, après une orientation avec Karine pour tout ce qui est transport et utilisation de son appart, je file au Palais des Congrès pour voir de quoi ça a l’air, une convention internationale sur la science fiction. J’assiste à quelques « panels » : c’est cool!
- Vendredi : Karine part pour le weekend (boo) et me laisse son appart (yé!) et sa carte de métro (w00t). Je retourne à WorldCon et assiste à d’autres panels… c’est de plus en plus intéressant! Je dîne avec des amis (dim sums!), soupe avec la gang au complet (pizza!), et nous allons prendre un drink sur invitation de GGK (peach thunderbolt, yum!). Beaucoup de plaisir – j’adore cette gang-là : chaque personne est chaleureuse, drôle et extraordinaire.
À la maison, François combat la grippe en s’occupant des deux enfants. Heureusement, il a un coup de main de ses parents. - Samedi : Une autre journée à la convention, encore beaucoup de panels intéressants. Dîner sur le pouce et soirée chez nos amis montréalais.
- Dimanche : Encore des panels! Dîner aux dim sums (mais le vrai resto de dim sums des Chinois… nous sommes en minorité; c’est toute une expérience… animée!), et souper chez les amis de Montréal, encore, avec charades en soirée. Beaucoup de plaisir dans chaque journée!
- Lundi 10 août : Retour au travail pour François, et à la garderie pour les enfants.
Quant à moi : Matinée chez les amis puis sortie dans le vieux Montréal en gang, avec visite de la Basilique Notre-Dame (wow!), puis dîner dans le vieux. Autobus en après-midi pour revenir à la maison… je revois mes petits mousses, yé!
La routine reprend ensuite son cours… Bouhou, fini les vacances… Heureusement, nous en avons profité énormément!
WorldCon était fantastique — des amis super, un événement super, une super chance de vivre en ville le temps d’un weekend (et un super break de parentage durant 5 jours… j’adore mes enfants, mais ça garde l’esprit sain d’avoir un petit break de temps en temps!).
Ce weekend, c’est mon tour de garder un peu alors que François passe le weekend au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières avec son cousin. La canicule est arrivée, aussi!
Alright, back with the rest of vacation, in bullet points (because I have too much ground to cover):
- Monday, August 3rd: Visit to the old Mill in the morning with lunch from the bakery. End of the afternoon and evening at Frank’s parents’ house, where we test their new jacuzzi! Dinner on the BBQ, yum.
- Tuesday and Wednesday: two quiet days. Some shopping and prep for WorldCon. First bellydance class in the evening!
- Thursday: X and O see their daycare friends again, and Frank and I go to Montreal to see the da Vinci exhibit. Next, we have lunch on site, and Frank drops me off at Karine’s place, where I will be staying for the next few days. He drives back to Trois-Rivières to take care of the kids. As for me, after an orientation with Karine about transport and lodgings, I get to the Palais des Congrès to see what an international science fiction convention looks like. I see some panels: it’s cool!
- Friday: Karine leaves for the weekend (boo) and leaves me her place (yay!) and her city transit pass (w00t). I go back to WorldCon and see some more panels… these are getting more and more interesting! I have lunch with some friends (dim sums!) and dinner with our whole bunch of friends (pizza!), then we have drinks on invitation from GGK (peach thunderbolt, yum!). Much fun – I love this group: each of them is warm, funny and extraordinary.
At home, Frank is fighting the flu while taking care of the kids. Fortunately, his parents are lending him a hand. - Saturday: Another day at the convention, more interesting panels. Lunch on the go and evening at our Montreal friends’ place.
- Sunday: More panels! Dim sums lunch (but the real chinese dim sums place this time… we’re a minority; it’s an experience… animated!), and dinner at the Montrealers’ place, again, with charades in the evening. Fun filled days!
- Monday, August 10: Back at work for Frank, and back at daycare for the kids.
As for me: morning at our friends’ then group outing in the old Montreal, including a visit to the Basilique Notre-Dame (wow!), then lunch. Bus back home in the afternoon… I see my kiddos again, yay!
Routine rushes back in… Boohoo, vacation time is over… Fortunately, we made the most of it!
WorldCon was a blast — super friends, super event, super chance to live in the city for a weekend (and a super 5 days break from parenting… I love my kids, but a small break is sanity once in a while!).
This weekend, it’s my turn to babysit while Frank is spending his time at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières with his cousin. Summer heat has started, too!
