I was totally expecting a silly quizz – « settle the pesky question of your spirituality in 20 quick questions!! »… I mean the site has « Which ‘Lost’ character are you? » in the Soul Surveys category, for heaven’s sake (that’s a bad pun, I know) – but the test is not that bad, with many options for each answer and the possibility to indicate which questions/issues have more importance to you. It also gave me a chance to explore theology just a little, and find out the beliefs of a couple of religions through the links provided.
For those who want to try it out, the site is beliefnet.com and the quizz is Belief-O-Matic.
Apparently, I should be a Unitarian Universalist. From what they say about this faith, it can encompass pretty much everything, so I don’t mind so much. I’m bummed I didn’t score higher as a Taoist, they sound kinda cool. Although the most dismaying part is that I only scored 10% in common with Roman Catholics (it barely made the list), which is what I’m supposed to be. Alright, since you’re dying to know my score, I’ve added it below.

Je m’attendais à un quizz bidon – « réglez la question ennuyeuse de votre spiritualité en 20 questions rapides!! »… le site a « Which ‘Lost’ character are you? » dans la catégorie Sondages de l’Esprit, quand même!… – mais le test n’est pas si mal, avec plusieurs options pour chaque réponse et la possibilité d’indiquer quels questions/sujets ont plus d’importance pour toi. Ça m’a aussi donné la chance d’explorer la théologie juste un peu, et découvrir les croyances de quelques religions à travers les liens fournis.

Apparemment, je devrais être « Unitarian Universalist ». D’après ce qu’ils disent de cette religion, ça peut englober pas mal tout, alors ça ne me dérange pas trop. Je suis déçue de n’avoir pas eu un meilleur score comme Taoiste, ils ont l’air cool. Quoique la chose la plus désarmante c’est que je n’ai scoré que 10% en commun avec les Catholiques Romains (ça n’est presque pas apparu sur la liste), alors que c’est ce que je suis sensée être. D’accord, puisque vous mourrez d’envie de savoir mon score, je l’ai ajouté ci-dessus.

Moksha, I’m not sure you can add them up, hehe. Most likely the aspects that give you a closeness to one kind of buddhism are repeated in another kind, so… ah, forget it.
Starting the test, I was wondering (hoping?) if I’d get buddhism (zen!) at the top of my results, but found out there are some aspects of buddhism I’m not as comfortable with – « Life is suffering », the emphasis on karma/rebirths (I like the idea, but not as a main focus), their position on abortion, homosexuality, etc. Taoism beliefs seem more comfortable to me (balance, yin-yang, and all that). Here’s an excerpt I particularly like:
« Taoism is not a salvific practice. There is nothing that one needs to be saved from, and belief in salvation would lead to belief in damnation in the same manner as belief in good leads to belief in evil. Although they do not accept the false duality of salvation vs. damnation, living simply in harmony with Te and Tao, and not excessively pursuing material wealth, stature, or prestige, will lead to a joyful life. »

I do agree that the results seem to meet what I beleive, though I would never actually apply those titles to my self. It is nice to know that three clubs would want me to join, ignoring Groucho Marx’s line.
